Introduction | |
|
The
Islamic world, in its noumerous countries,
comprises a cultural heritage of handicrafts.The
artisans are distinguished for their creative
thinking in an array of outstanding products
that still exist arround the world. It expresses
the genuine aspects of traditional handcrafts in
the Islamic World, in various fields
Ornamentation, Caligraphy, Architectural design,
Book binding, Decor, Carpetry, Weaving, Arms and
Mashrabias, Stained glass, traditional outfits,
and other spelnders stating the elegance resulting
from local settings of basic asthetics, that until
today control the path of innovation in the
present, revealing the distinguished heritage and
cultural identity of the Islamic World, and still
contributes actively to tourism and the
economic growth and distinguishing the creativity
in the filed of urban heritage.
This
enlightened part of our heritage, is exposed to
some obstacles and difficulties preventing it from
growing and developing, such as the dominance of
modern machinary, and the various products we see
being made by it, as a result of which artisan
will have to work in factories and leave his/her
traditional craft. Also, there are difficulties in
financing and funding, and the lack of proper
training and education in this field, as well as
the difficulty of marketing the handmade and other
products.
This
current status implies a social responsibility,
not only on artisans, but also on all local and
national authorities and bodies, in the importance
of cooperation in an active form, in order to
contribute to improving the social and economic
living standards of artisans, through providing
ongoing training and education programs for
them, and supply the atrisans with basic material
and aid, in addition to providing suitable
marketing opportunities for their products. On the
other hand, there must be an incentives and
special promotions to activate competition frames
in order to obtain a continuous creativity in this
field, a type that we would be proud of and
distinguished among other societies, through
issuing awards for the honoraries, which will lead
to new products.
Following
up the promotion work of the Supreme Commission
for Tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,
tourism and heritage projects are planned in order
to activate and revive this sector. It is
suggested to allocate a special award for
traditional artisans in the Islamic World, to
mobilize these creative efforts, encourage them to
maintain a continuous connection assuring the
products of this sector. |

The idea
behind the award | |
|
To
come up with an international award of innovation
in the handicrafts sector in the Islamic World,
once every two years, to identify this important
part of the Islamic cultural heritage and promote
the motion of ongoing creativity and innovation.
Also, to draw the attention of artisans and to the
important role they have to preserve the heritage
creativity. |

The
importance of the
award | |
|
The
importance of this International Award is to
draw attention to this important aspect
of Islamic cultural heritage and to identify
it on both international and provincial level.
This will be a unique award in terms of attracting
businesses from different and distant regions of
the world, and shall work on activating the frames
of creativity and innovation of both male and
female artisans in this field, and to enlighten
them on the imminence given in the society to
their work, which will include protecting,
preserving continues production of this
heritage. |

The
objectives of this
award | |
- To approve of process of ensuring
research, creativity, crafts organization and
formation, besides identifying means of
cooperation in this field.
- To develop this form of art, and
increase the innovation ability of young
artisans through competitive programs and
motives encouraging them to create and innovate,
thus, to reach sustainable industrial
handicrafts.
- To draw and identify a solid process policy
to ensure the revival of innovation in the
Islamic world, and to come out with a clear work
plan arise in this field, representing a
heritage, tourism, culture, and economic
resource of member states.
- To improve special situations of artisans
work and field in order to encourage their
innovative ability.
- To draw international and regional attention
to the importance of artisans, through
displaying their unique prize winning products.
- To identify honorary artisans work of
different region, to establish opportunities of
cooperation in order to exchange artisans among
member countries, which will lead to introducing
them to each others work beside best
practice.

The Award
Terms &
Specifications | |
- The participants shall be informed to
present at least two samples of their work: a
finished item, as well as another similar item
to be completed under the supervision of the
International Arbitration Committee to display
professionality of the participants.
- Participation is open for all catagories,
products presented shall be for the first time,
and never been displayed before.
- The participants are required to present
enough information on the presented handicraft
item, including a brief on its origin, and
materials used, as well as techniques applied.
- The awards shall be awarded to the artisan
displaying rare qualification and profession.
- Also, the artisans (male/female) shall be
awarded with a prize for best presentation of
their work, revealing qualification of work
during the period of presenting
proposals.

There will be a prize amounting to 102,000 Saudi
Riyals allocated for this award.
